The hospital has been recently renovated and is known as Dr. P.N. Mahendra Eye Institute with a new research wing Mahendra Eye Research Center.
Dr. P.N. Mahendra Eye Institute is recognized as a teaching & training Institute.

Post Graduate Training:
 DNB – (Diploma of National Board)
  Diploma of National Board in ophthmaology by National Board of Examination Delhi. DNB is equal to MS or MD by the Government of India. The intake for D.N.B. course is done every year in the month of July. The last date for accepting applications for admittance to the course is 15th July every year
 Training of house surgeon in ophthalmology Recognized by     Medical Council of India.
 Teaching classes, Case presentations and distant teaching     programme through IGNOU are held on a regular basis.
Under Graduate Training:
  For the training of undergraduates, the following training courses are recognized by U.P. Government and Optometry and State Medical Faculty

Diploma in Refraction & Optometry (D.R. Opt)
Diploma in Orthoptics (D. Ort)

Regular classes are held at the Hospital.
Second year students are subjected to 'in - hospital' training where students    are associated with our Hospital para-medicos for practical training in the    Hospital.
Library and computer facilities available to the students.
Admission to the course is held every year in June. Advertisements are      inserted in newspapers to the effect. The applicant can collect prospectus from    Hospital counter making a payment of Rs 100/- or can secure the prospectus    through courier by making a payment of Rs 150/-. The prospectus carries the    application form. The application form can be submitted alongwith a D.D. of Rs      300/- in    favour of 'Khairabad Eye Hospital Training Account' payable at    Kanpur.
Hostel facilities are available for boys only.
SICS Surgery Training:
  We conduct regular ‘Hands-On’ training for SICS surgery under the guidance of our surgeons. The course is meant for a min 2 weeks period. For course details, please contact us. We also provide single accommodation on twin sharing basis, for free, for the trainees in the Hospital premises.
